The Ultimate Online Privacy Guide

Hemant Verma - 4:56 PM
Not everyone has had the opportunity to take the time and read a ton of information on online privacy, but I will explain what I know in detail to make things easier. Sometimes we all worry about our privacy being leaked somehow to the internet, but with a little care and measures taken you will never have to worry about something like that happening to you. Today I would like to go through some very important steps you should use to watch out for attacks and prevent them from happening.

Trusting with Social Media

I know in today’s society everyone likes to share their events with family and friends through social media, but the majority of the time most have total strangers also. You should make sure who you have as friends on these social media sites as sharing too much information can be a very common thing.
Did you know that most social media sites contain a GPS system for all your posts allowing people to see where you are posting from whether it is text or photos? Turning these sorts of features off is vital for your own personal safety and to help prevent any sort of privacy invasion.

Creating Complex Password

Using the internet means you will have multiple accounts floating around in cyber space. It is wise to have unique and complex passwords attached to these accounts especially if they are accounts that may contain very personal information such as bank statements or credit card numbers. If you are like me and have problems creating complex passwords on the fly, then you might want to check out generators online, or check out some really nice detail guides on how to transform an everyday password into something hard to crack.

Unsolicited Emails and Filtering

There have been many cases where people get scammed due to email phishing and fraudulent government mail. How email phishing works is frauds will attempt to contact you with an address that looks relatively similar to its official counterpart in order to fool the user into giving up important information.
Try to stay away from any attachments that might be added with these types of email as they could be malware or system hostage bugs. Some of the information these scams usually request are:
  • Home Addresses
  • Full Names
  • Medical ID Numbers
  • Social Security Numbers

Disposing of Devices Correctly

Everyone has a few old devices lying around the house, phones, old beat up hard drives, and even tablets. These devices should be properly disposed of as they could contain vital information without you even knowing, even though it is a physical object it can affect your online life. Take the time to properly format drives and delete old contacts, if you have problems doing so you can look online for digital manuals that can guide you through the process.

Public Wi-Fi Use

It is now easier to find free public Wi-Fi than it is to get a free glass of water, but did you know these connections are extremely unreliable? Most Wi-Fi connections are not secured and can be hacked by a lurker attempting to steal someone's identity or banking information.
There are many hackers that use luring public network names to basically reel in people. Once connect to “Free Network” you are now going to get streamed and even stripped of all private information. A great way to make sure you don’t fall victim to these types of scams is to ask around to see if it is a legit connection. If at a café don’t be afraid to ask the waiters, as it could potentially bite you in the rear.

Virtual Private Networks

These are tools to mask the users from basically anything online, if connecting to a public Wi-Fi network you instantly become undetectable. It is highly recommended to activate a virtual private network when outbound, as it can protect your system from malware or human invasions. Getting into detail, what the program does is takes all the information that goes into and out of your system and scrambles it, using encryption software, making it unreadable to hackers.
This is also a great way to bypass restriction like country censorship and administrative blocks. When traveling, a virtual private network can be used for many purposes, and that is why it is high on my list of online security.

Anti-Virus

With people being more aware of what’s out there, the anti-virus market has risen and now is flooded with many mainstream brands. I will say that most anti-virus programs due offer their own unique look at online crime fighting. Taking the time to look through them all and research them would be your best bet as some might not be offering what you are looking for.
The good thing about anti-virus software is that you will always be warned if being attacked and will always be updated to fight against some of the more advanced malware and malicious website phishing schemes.
I hope you are able to put some of these protection methods into practice and keep yourself safe when surfing the web. Knowing what threats are out there and knowing how to disable them is the best thing anyone can learn as a computer user. Identity theft is a serious matter and with technology becoming easier to handle, I am afraid things will only get easier for criminals.

Why We Love and Why Hates Whatsapp

Hemant Verma - 5:01 PM
As we all knows about the popular messaging app whatsapp, there is many advantages and also there is many disadvantages of that product but we still love it, so here you could get some more facts about the whatapp messaging app which is very important in the sense of awareness.

Advantages...

1. Wishing on festivals and special days used to cost a bomb with telcos charging standard SMS and call rates on those days. With WhatsApp, we do not have to care for the rates any more

2. Standard smileys were common in SMS language, but WhatsApp emojis have rendered some words unnecessary. An emoji of two beer mugs clunking does a better job than 'Cheers!'

3. Earlier, sharing pictures instantly meant mailing them, putting them up on Facebook or sending through an MMS. Now, you can just click and share in no time.

4. We actually used to ring the doorbell to our friend's house and then we took to calling them. Now we WhatsApp them that we're waiting outside.

5. Earlier you had to try hard to avoid a group of people in chat — now you can set a lot of them on permanent mute.

Disadvantages...

1. As if annoying phone calls, spam mails and text messages were not enough, tele-marketers are now sending out WhatsApp pings.

2. Any modicum of privacy we might have salvaged from a world going rapidly digital has been stripped to its last bone, after WhatsApp introduced the blue tick 'message seen' feature.

Implementing Risk Management To Manage Enterprise Reputation

Hemant Verma - 2:51 PM

Reputation is an impalpable, magnetic and powerful asset and yet it is so fragile. Any minor breach in the regulation or behavior of the enterprise may harm the goodwill or reputation directly impacting the business. A dynamic Enterprise Risk Management framework can mitigate the risks and protect the reputation of the organization.

Aftermath the financial crises of 2007-2008 and the recent lawsuits against the world's most reputed brands sparked by the social media coverage has revealed the value of aligning with the technology, governance, regulation and quality compliances. Research has revealed that reputation is the second most concern of the organizations after quality when measuring risk.
A standard delivery of products and services meeting the customer expectations is the key to build reputation, which drives growth and profits for the organization. At the same time it is necessary to save your organization from potential threats that can destroy your goodwill and the trust among them.

It is better to go beyond the traditional approaches of assessing and comparing the risk and assess both risks and its impact. This helps in exploring the connections between the reputation and the ability of the organization to market to customers and communicate with stakeholders. The reputation risk managers must try to provide and interpret data that will determine how reputation risk can be minimized, and reputation impact can be maximized.

Elements of Reputation Risk

Some of the quarters of reputation risks are:
  • Quality Compromise
  • Data Breach
  • Poor quality communication
  • Negligent hiring or retention
  • Occupational fraud
  • Inspecting third parties
  • Shortfall in financial performance
  • Labour unrest
  • Corporate governance & leadership
  • Corporate Social responsibility

If managed well these elements can surely bolster the organization's reputation. A business needs to consider all these risks within the extended enterprise.

The damaged reputation may affect a number of aspects in the business like cost of capital, key stakeholders or the worst of all preference of the customer. It may also bring down the supplier's inclination to maintain partnership with the firm. It may escalate the competitor's desire to enter the market or may impact the media coverage for the organization, negatively.
The regulatory and control authority may change their attitude towards the company following a major breach in Governance, regulatory or quality compliance.

How to save the reputation?

The success of every executive is inevitably linked to the success of the organization. It is vital for every leader and executive to direct their efforts to reduce the reputation risk.
  • Efficient board oversight
  • Efficient communication and maintaining relation with the social media
  • Implementation of risk-prevention strategies into the business planning
  • Maintaining quality commitment
  • Profitable market recognition

Adopt risk based compliance approach
Diagnose the potential threats to reputation: Identifying the potential threats to reputation breach like the non-compliance can solve the crises from the root. Determining the nature, source and the cause of the risk will make it easy to apply the risk management steps. Evaluating the attitude of the stakeholder is very important as they are the people whose decisions and support really matters when crises unfolds.

Prioritising risks of non-compliance
Prioritizing the non-compliance risks is importance so that the vital activities relating to the compliance can be manifested. The organization must adhere to the Governmental policies which in turn must be reflected to the policies and targets of the organization.

Identifying and selecting compliance measures
It is vital to identify and choose appropriate and most cost effective compliance measures that can give the maximum benefits. The organization must allocate sufficient resources to the greatest element of reputation risk.

The organizations must make their choices based on the velocity of the risk. An early anticipation and preparedness for a crises enhances the managers and risk managers towards an improved response to vulnerable areas of risk and the crises itself. The response should accentuate on transparency and effective communication strategy of the crises. The best option to prevent a situation of reputation crises is to through quality commitment, solid operational and technological focus and acceptance of the situation.

Hemant Verma - 5:37 PM

Since the announcement last June of the upcoming release of iOS 7 this fall of 2013, everybody is on the edge of their seats waiting for the official and final roundup of features this new operating system from Apple has to offer. From the time it was announced, several Beta versions of the said operating system were released. From Beta 1 released last June 10, 2013 to the latest that is Beta 6 which is so far the newest and addresses the issue regarding iTunes, stability and speed improvements. The official and final release of the software this September will however unveil all the amazing features that iOS 7 has to offer.

In the meantime, let us discuss all the features that Apple has mentioned about iOS 7. Indeed, this is the biggest change so far since the beginning of iPhone. And it is not hard to miss all the notable changes in the overall redesigned user interface. The design of the UI is a combination of new icons, layering, translucency, polished typography and a parallax 3D effect giving new dimension and depth to the Home screen.

Check Out Some New in iOS7

According to Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple Inc., there are ten major changes and feature additions that we should look forward to with the new operating system.

Panoramic or Live Wallpapers

This feature is similar to that of Google’s Android screen where your wallpaper moves with a swipe from left to right. It has preload wallpapers like bubbles, ripples, dew drops and many more. The static wallpaper is used based on the gyroscope input, wherein when a panoramic photo is taken with the use of the Camera app it will move while you move from left to right.

Photos

Each photo uses the EXIF data wherein it is sorted by location and date to browse through photos easier and faster.

Safari

The browsing is better with the unified smart search field and going back and forth between tabs is easy with just a swipe. Other changes include parental controls and infinite tabs.

Music and iTunes Radio

Available on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac PC and Apple TV for free, it features streaming radio stations. You can choose from over 200 genre-based stations.

Final Words....!

Although these ten major changes or features were the only one users are possibly looking for, other features like Audio-only calling for FaceTime, Find My iPhone, Notification Center syncing and Wi-Fi Hotspot 2.0 might not be mentioned in other new releases but we will have to wait for the final release to finally see all the great features iOS 7 has to offer.

Facebook is one of them the best social networking websites that could help you a lot to get daily news and also grow up your own blog /website. There are tons of features inside Facebook. According to me, Facebook has more fake profiles than original one.

Facebook introduced Verified Pages, which the company said are designed to "To help people find the authentic accounts of celebrities and other high-profile people and businesses on Facebook."

Journalists Mark Bittman and Ezra Klein already have verified accounts, as does The New York Times. On the brands front, the Facebook accounts of Target and Oreo, for example, are now verified.
