10 Tips to Find the Best WordPress Hosting

Hemant Verma - 8:23 PM

Here are some tips to help you find a good hosting package that is suitable for a WordPress blog. There are many types of website you may create, but a WordPress blog includes certain features that suit a range of different hosting services. For example, a WordPress blog is less in need of a lot of hosting space, as it does not often feature large video or image catalogues. There is not even a massive need for lots of bandwidth if the blog is suitably optimized. Here are nine tips to help you find the right host for you.

Find Best WordPress Hosting

1. A secure hosting service

Security is a big deal because you have to take such care of it from your end too. The hacker has two ways of getting access to your blog. Either he/she attacks from the front and hacks your WordPress account, or from the back and gains access via the server. If the server is unprotected, then it won’t matter which security plugins you have or how strong your password is because the hacker will still have control of your blog.

2. A company you pay for

Free hosts are very dubious unless you are going through a company such as the Google Blogger program. Otherwise there is always a catch, and it may be anything from charging you later on, to scraping your online traffic for credit card numbers or email addresses. Free hosts may be nice, but unless you do not care about security too much--they are probably not for you.

3. Read reviews

Keep a look out for the negative ones, as they are more often the accurate ones. The occasional bad review is natural, and the hosting services without any negative reviews are probably censoring reviews. Look for consistencies and trends with negative reviews. If a few people are complaining about one element, then that element is probably a true fault with the company.

4. A company that will let you go

You may not realize it, but it is very important that the host does not have a bad reputation for not letting people break contracts, or for being sluggish after a hosting period is over. They may keep your website online so that you cannot switch hosts, which is a very bad situation to be in.

5. Be wary of their down-time amount

Their downtime cannot be more than 2% or Google will punish your blog. Just a 2% downtime is seven days, and most hosts should easily be able to boast a 98% or more uptime. All servers have to go down at some point, so be careful of hosts that claim they have a 100% uptime and claim that their service never goes down, as this is very difficult to pull off.

6. A company that will allow you to upgrade

Ideally you want to upgrade the amount of hosting space you have on your blog as time goes on. You may wish to add more files, or your blog may start to take up more space than you have. The company should allow you to upgrade, and the company should also charge a reasonable price for upgrades, as a common con is to hook you in with a cheap starter package and then charge a lot of money to upgrade it.

7. A maintenance schedule is a good thing

If they have a maintenance schedule then it shows that they care about their server maintenance, and it shows that they care about your website or blog. You may be having a big promotion on one of the days that they are planning on taking the service offline. If they have a schedule then you can arrange your website and blog activities around their maintenance.

8. The file transfer procedures are not shaky

There are times when software bugs make your blogging life a little harder. There is nothing worse than having this happen when you are transferring files from your computer to your blog. It is horrible to have to lose files or have to keep restarting your file transfer.

9. Shop around a little

It is not all about getting a better price, but it is possible to get lower priced packages that are good quality. That is why you should shop around and try to find a package that both suit your purposes and that is not too expensive. There are lots of companies that advertise an awful lot and then have to make up for it by charging people like you a lot more.

10. Bandwidth should be plentiful and upgradeable

The bandwidth controls what people can see and how many can see it. Do not start out by buying lots, as your traffic numbers will probably not require it. But, as your blog becomes more popular, you need to be sure that your host is going to allow you to upgrade your bandwidth allocation.

Does a VPN Service Have Any Disadvantages?

Hemant Verma - 10:53 AM

Most of the time, when you are talking about VPN services , you hear nothing but all of the positives and the good that these types of services can offer. While it is true that they have quite a few advantages, anyone who wants to make sure that he or she is always making a sound decision is also going to want to know about any possibly disadvantages that might be present. Knowing the benefits is great, but knowing the troubles that the services could have is going to help you even more when you are looking for the perfect VPN provider.

The following are some of the common issues that some people find with certain VPN providers and services. Most of the time, however, the benefits are going to outshine any difficulties that one might have.

Too Technical for Some

While everyone wants to have privacy while online, not all people have the same level of knowledge when it comes to public network safety and security. They may not know all of the terms associated with security, and they probably do not know all of the actual dangers that are out there or the methods by which someone could target their computers. This means that the technological aspect of VPN service could be too much for some individuals to be able to understand.

Fortunately, this is not always a problem. Since the VPN services have been gaining popularity, it is far easier today to find good information about how to use them and how to stay safe, often without needing to delve to deeply into the technological aspect of the service.

Controlling the Performance

While most of the time, you are going to see an improvement in performance when you are using a VPN, this is not always the case. It can be difficult to determine whether the connections are actually better or not. Some of the services out there have VPN connections that are actually slower than the regular connections are. This is something that the user must understand when using a VPN. They should take to see what types of speeds the provider is able to guarantee if any. For some, connectivity could be a problem as well, and this can be an issue.

Safety Concerns

One of the areas that you would not expect there to be a disadvantage would be safety. However, in some circumstances, you might find that this could be a problem. The biggest issue comes from companies using the service and who allow their employees to use their own private home computers with the VPN. This would be fine if they had control over those computers and were certain that they did not already have an infection. This is less a problem with the VPN and more of a problem with the overall security of the employee’s computers, but it could still be an issue. One of the bests workaround for this is to provide those who telecommute with computers from work that are specifically for work and not for personal use.

The Benefits Outweigh the Risks

Even with the minor issues that some people might face with VPN providers, you will generally find that the benefits are going to outweigh the risks. Greater security and true anonymity are the things that people crave today. They do not want to be online and at the mercy of hackers who want to steal their identities. Take the time to look at all of the benefits that a VPN provider can offer you and then see whether it is going to be in your best interest to use one. Most of the time, it is.

Top Web Hosting Mistakes that Should be Avoid

Hemant Verma - 12:51 AM

There are so many web hosting options available that choosing the correct host can be a burden. Website owners should have a thorough understanding of the most common mistakes that are made when selecting a host in order to avoid these pitfalls themselves. Below are five of the most commonly made mistakes when it comes to choosing a web hosting service that are all easily avoidable.

Let's See Some Mistakes

1. Using One Web Hosting Service for Multiple Sites:

Many website owners actually own multiple sites. If all the sites are on one server that goes down then that means none of their sites will be accessible. This is particularly important when websites are used as a means to make money because no money can be made when the sites are down. While it is tempting to choose just one web host for the sake of convenience, bulk management, and possibly discounts it is important to consider how important this factor is to the sites. If having all the sites down at one time would be devastating then consider using multiple servers.

2. Choosing a Web Host with a Badly Designed Website:

When selecting a website host, it is worthwhile to examine their site. It should not have the appearance of being a “cookie cutter” site that lacks personality. It should always be functional and usable and have detailed facts, statistics, and contact information. In particular, there should always be a phone number that website owners should write down just in case their host site ever goes down. If a company claims to be an effective web hosting service their site should reflect that.

3. Selecting a Web Host with Bad Customer Service:

Most website owners do not realize some of the minute technical details that are involved in web hosting. For this reason, it is vital that the chosen host has a good reputation when it comes to customer service. If questions arise, and they inevitably will, it is important that they respond quickly with an adequate answer. As a test, try sending them an e-mail with a question and see how long it takes to get a response. Specifically, their employees who respond to technical inquiries should be skilled.

4. Using a “Free” Web Hosting Service:

More and more free web hosting services are popping up on the internet. Beware of those hosts that claim to be free. Most of the time they are free only because they put up advertisements on their hosted sites without giving the owner any say in the types of advertisements. In addition, they often lack certain features that most site owners would want to access. In other words, the old adage that states, “You get what you pay for” holds true when it comes to web hosting services.

5. Not Knowing What Requirements a Site Needs:

It is important that website owners have an understanding of the requirements that their site will need when it comes to web hosting services. In other words, how much disk space or bandwidth is required? How quickly does the site need to load for optimal search results? These are just a few of the many questions that need to be answered prior to selecting a web hosting service. So, as a website owner, conduct the necessary research or be prepared to ask the proper questions in order to find a host to fit your site.

Web hosting is a vital component of a successful website. It is important to be thorough when vetting the many potential web hosting services that are available.
